Monoliff!

Not to be outdone by the Police reuniting and going on tour, I, Mendelini, have decided to come back to the icon game after five years. Instead of a lengthy diatribe about why or how, I’m just going to unleash the damn thing and let you people enjoy it. Do let me know what you think, as I may be inspired to make more icons in the near future. And while you’re here, be sure to check out the last three years worth of crazy blog.
These icons are donationware, so they’re free. But if you are inclined to donate to my replace-my-seven-year-old-G4 cause, feel free to PayPal me!
Download for Windows (ICO files)
Download for CandyBar (To use this file, you need CandyBar from Panic - not affiliated with this blog, but they make killer software for the Mac like Transmit, which PWNS all other FTP browsers!)
Download for Pixadex (To use this file you need Pixadex from the Iconfactory; they made this world, I’m just playing in it)
Click this thing to see a screenshot of all of the icons!

Update: Because all the n00bs seem to have the same problem using these icons, please follow this link which details how to change the icons in Mac OS X without additional software (plus it also features Monoliff!)

Cool Icons! I especially like the public folder and burn folders. They’re cool.

Oh my.. These icons are so beautiful it hurts. The problem is that I am totally new to mac and have no idea how to actually use them. Unzipping gives me a bunch of directorys. Each directory with it’s own icon. Maybe I’ll should try the .ico variant instead.
How do you apply these icons?
In straight-up Mac OS, you “Get Info” for the file you want to change and the icon you want to change it to, click your chosen icon, copy it, then paste it to the old file (in the “get info” window, that is)
So, I downloaded your great Monoliff icons and I find myself pretty computer literate, however, I can’t figure out how to apply them and/or replace my old, boring Mac icons. What do I do with the folder that is now just sitting on my desktop which contains the icons?
Caroline. Actually the tip above works nice. But you (read I) can’t change certain protected icons. Like the systemsfolder. I tried the candybar application mentioned in the original post and it worked flawlessly. It costs $12 but seems to do the trick unless you wan’t more features.
How do I bypass the read-only permission that prevents me from dragging the new icons into the get info menu ? Somebody please help these icons are too pretty to sit and vegetate in a folder on my desktop (Mac OSX 10.4.8)
You don’t drag them… You copy and paste
How can I change the icons for more than one folder/icon? You know, rather than go through EVERY single application folder, library folder, etc. Does this makes any sense??
hey there all-These icons look terrific-I hope you do some more-like iPods and iChat and such.I will be watching-very nice set here-Will Pay Pay when I get paid next, thanks for sharing them with us.
I too know Mac very well, but am having no luck changing my icons. I’ve tried the above explanation, but that is not working for me. Isn’t it possible to change all the icons at once, from a directory file somewhere? If not, how do I change them one at a time? A detailed step by step of how would be really helpful.
Hey guys,
the icons are cool. I’ve read the above instruction to apply the icons. unfortunately, they are not working out.
so I wonder if you could explain it in more detail please………
appreciate.
Hello
I was looking forward to the icons for the new mac, and every time I download them there was nothing but blank folders and when you tried to paste them there was just blank folders.
Thanks anyway.
This should clear up any problems people are having with the straight-up icons:

However, using Candybar or Pixadex makes things even simpler
HELLO again
The mac icons are PC format and my macbook pro does not want to open without an application program.
Probably because the new mac is crap.
25 year user of macs, but not for much longer.
